The Prince and Princess of Wales and their children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis headed to RAF Fairford yesterday for the Royal International Air Tattoo.
Despite the rain the family enjoyed their day out, especially George whose love of helicopters and aircraft is well known- he was even able to press the switch to partially raise the ramp of a C17 Globemaster from the inside. This was the same C17 used to transport the coffin of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II last September.
Louis was spotted climbing
onto a quad bike onboard the Globemaster. The rest of the day the family
looked over aircraft and at the flying display.
Prince William served in the RAF as a Search and Rescue helicopter pilot, based at RAF Valley near Angelsey, Wales until 2014. Thereafter he worked for East Anglia Air Ambulance in the same role but in a private capacity.
The Princess of Wales has her own RAF connection- Honorary Air Commandant of the Air Cadets. Catherine took over this role from the late Duke of Edinburgh in 2015 when he was scaling back his workload.
Prince George will mark his 10th birthday on the 22nd July so this may well be part of his birthday celebrations.
