Sporty Princess Charlotte
Princess Charlotte of Cambridge is almost 18 months old and the royal toddler's enjoyment of sport is emerging.
In June, Charlotte's mum Catherine remarked at a reception to celebrate the Queen's 90th birthday 'oh she is very cute but she has got quite a feisty side.' Sport might just be an ideal way for the young princess to express herself.
More recently, the Duchess met with medalists from the Rio Olympic Games and Paralympics. From Hello magazine:
"While conversing at Buckingham Palace with equestrian triple-gold medalist Natasha Baker, the Duchess of Cambridge admitted that her little girl has a “passion” for horses.
After chatting with the 34-year-old royal, Natasha revealed, “[The Duchess] said Charlotte is really enjoying her riding which is great to hear, and I said we may see her here on a line-up in 20 years time.”
Though Charlotte fancies horseback riding, her mother doesn’t share the same interest — but that’s not to say she won’t support her daughter. “[Kate] emphasized that Charlotte has this passion about horses and although she doesn't echo it, she'll do her best to champion and encourage it,” Natasha said.
Prince William's wife noted that their daughter “would have loved” to have been at the reception but “she'd be running riot.” No doubt the little equestrian in-the-making was at home with big brother Prince George who is a fan of another sport: fencing. Kate said, “George is fascinated by fencing, but I think that's because of the face shields.”
Field Hockey Player Alexandra Danson revealed, "[Kate] said George has picked up a polo stick and she's trying to show him to use it as a hockey stick."
Also from Hello, Prince William commented on the children's football skills at the National Football Museum in Manchester:
"Charlotte is the one who shows more aptitude [for football]," William said, chatting to the England women's team captain, Steph Houghton, and her teammate Jill Scott. "George is sort of getting into it slowly, but Charlotte is showing more aptitude."
We also know the Cambridge siblings have swimming lessons and George has been having tennis lessons at the family's country home, Amner Hall.
Like most parents of small children, William and Catherine have come to realise what better way to burn off toddler energy than with lots of physical activity!
